Job description
Swiss Timing is looking for an experienced Software Department Manager to lead its Software Department in an innovative technology organization.
The role combines software leadership, product ownership, cloud platform management, and innovation. You will lead the Software Engineering, DevOps, Cloud Platform, and Product Owner teams, ensuring alignment between technology, product priorities, and delivery.
A key focus is driving AI and emerging technologies across products and development. Over time, the role may expand into broader Product Management and Technology leadership.
Your Mission
You will build and lead a high-performing organization capable of transforming customer needs, business opportunities, and innovative ideas into successful technology products.
You will ensure that Swiss Timing has the software engineering, cloud, DevOps, product ownership, and technology capabilities required to develop and operate modern digital products.
You will work closely with senior management, Business Development, Sports Solutions, Product Management, and other technology teams to ensure that Swiss Timing develops products that deliver strong customer and business value.
You will create an environment where technology, product thinking, AI, cloud, and innovation come together to accelerate the development of next-generation sports technology.
Your Responsibilities
Software & Technology Leadership
- Lead and develop the Software Engineering, DevOps, Cloud Platform, and Product Owner teams.
- Define and execute the software strategy aligned with business and product objectives.
- Foster a culture of innovation, engineering excellence, agility, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure the delivery of scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable software solutions.
- Continuously improve development practices, tools, processes, and productivity.
Cloud Platform & DevOps
- Lead the evolution of cloud platforms and cloud-based services.
- Ensure availability, reliability, security, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Drive adoption of modern cloud technologies, DevOps practices, CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and observability.
- Establish standards and processes for cloud operations, deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
- Enable teams to efficiently build, deploy, and operate cloud-based products and services.
Product & Innovation
- Lead the Product Owner organization and ensure effective product planning, prioritization, and delivery.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate customer and business needs into successful products and services.
- Drive innovation through AI, computer vision, generative AI, automation, cloud, and emerging technologies.
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI in products and software development.
- Promote experimentation, prototyping, and rapid validation of new concepts.
People Leadership
- Build, motivate, and develop high-performing Product Owner, Software Engineering, DevOps, and Cloud Platform teams.
- Strengthen capabilities in software engineering, AI, cloud, automation, data, and emerging technologies.
- Establish clear responsibilities, efficient ways of working, and development paths.
- Manage resources, budgets, technology partners, and departmental priorities.
- Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, learning, experimentation, and innovation.
Profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Business, or a related field.
- Significant experience in software development, technology management, product development, or related leadership roles within product-oriented organizations.
- Proven track record in leading and developing software engineering and/or product organizations.
- Experience working with or managing Product Owners and Product Managers.
- Strategic mindset combined with a hands-on approach and execution focus.
- Strong leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to balance customer value, innovation, delivery, quality, cost, security, and operational reliability.
- Strong passion for innovation and the ability to transform emerging technologies into practical business solutions.
Professional requirements
- Strong understanding of modern software development methodologies and Agile frameworks.
- Sound knowledge of DevOps principles, APIs, software product lifecycles, and cloud-native architectures.
- Practical experience with cloud platforms and operations, preferably Microsoft Azure or similar technologies.
- Good understanding of Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies, with the ability to identify business applications and opportunities.
- Experience in sports technology, real-time systems, data platforms, media technology, computer vision, or mission-critical environments is considered an advantage.
Languages
- Fluent English language skills, both written and spoken.
- German or French language skills would be an asset.
