Jaquet Droz – The Bird Repeater

Pierre Jaquet-Droz was above all a child of the Swiss Jura. In these valleys that are still today the cradle of Swiss watchmaking excellence, the sound of birdsong accompanies the cycle of the seasons. At first incorporated in real birdcages, these creations were soon transformed into pocket watches and table clocks of proportions as small as they were refined.

The automata

The Bird Repeater is an authentic automaton, with a cam system inherited directly from the centur y of Enlightenment, and it calls upon the resources of all the decorative crafts. In a stunning visual show, The Bird Repeater represents a pair of Blue Tits, symbolic of the Jura region, together over the nest containing their fledglings. Jaquet Droz has associated The Bird Repeater to one of haute horlogerie’s most virtuoso complications: Minute Repeater. The watch strikes on demand the hours, quarters and minutes and sets the wonderful animated sequences in motion.
