Swatch & Art

Swatch Art

Swatch has always loved bringing art to the people. Often referred to as a “canvas on the wrist”, Swatch has seen many an artwork on its dial, getting art out of the museum and literally onto people.

Now, in an ironic reversal, three iconic Swatch watches are making their way to one of the most influential art museums in the world. In its new exhibition Items: Is Fashion Modern?, The Museum of Modern Art in New York explores the past, present and future of 111 items that have had a profound effect on the world over the last century. Running from October 1, 2017 through January 28, 2018, the exhibition presents, along with ballet flats, a diamond engagement ring, a hoodie and several little black dresses, five watches created by the Swiss watchmaker––three in collaboration with artists.

LOTS OF DOTS is imbued with the casual, unhurried spirit of the Italian architect and designer, Alessandro Mendini. SPACE PEOPLE is an eye-catching strip of fantasy created by French fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. These three signature watches will join the iconic JELLY FISH — part of the permanent collection of the design department, for the next four months at the MoMA. Keeping up with good traditions, Swatch is bringing art to the people, this time with two special MoMA editions inspired by the upcoming exhibition. Time to get in line at 18 West 54 Street, Manhattan!
