Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon

The next evolution of Speedmaster Dark and Grey Side of the Moon
OMEGA unveils seven new models across four distinctive dials, each showcasing advanced ceramic engineering and precision finishing. Available on newly designed rubber or nylon straps, the collection represents years of technical refinement in case construction and movement development.
In 1968, history was made when the Apollo 8 became the first human flight ever to orbit the moon. As command module pilot Jim Lovell spoke his final words to ground control — "we’ll see you on the other side”— before disappearing beyond radio contact to the lunar far side, each astronaut onboard carried an OMEGA Speedmaster.
Today, OMEGA commemorates that extraordinary legacy with the next chapter of its celebrated Speedmaster Dark and Grey Side of the Moon collection— seven new models that push the boundaries of ceramic watchmaking and space-inspired design while embodying the pioneering spirit that has guided OMEGA to the Moon and beyond.
“The Dark Side of the Moon collection embodies OMEGA’s pioneering spirit that has guided us to the Moon,” said Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA. “These new models champion that extraordinary legacy while introducing innovations that will define chronographs for generations to come.” Twelve years after the original Dark Side of the Moon captivated collectors worldwide, this 2025 evolution represents the most significant advancement in the collection’s history.
Following Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8’s Master Chronometer certification, the new Dark Side collection continues OMEGA’s dedication to precision engineering. The latest models feature redesigned architecture with slimmer profiles, advanced Co-Axial calibres, and ceramic construction techniques refined over four years of development.
Technical Mastery Redefined
The collection's technical evolution centres on OMEGA's mastery of ceramic craftsmanship. The new bevelled polished ceramic process achieves extraordinary precision, creating surfaces of remarkable depth and brilliance. All models now feature improved case proportions with slimmer profiles while maintaining the bold 44.25mm presence that defines the Dark Side aesthetic.
Enhanced Liquidmetal™ technology appears across bezels and crowns, delivering superior durability and scratch resistance. The innovative two-layer ceramic dial construction provides unprecedented depth, with laser-brushed finishes that capture and transform light.
New Distinct Expressions
The collection introduces both entirely new creations and reimagined classics, each featuring enhanced precision, refined proportions, and advanced ceramic innovations with the option of a rubber or nylon strap. The collection includes:
- A new and much slimmer manual-winding expression with the Black Edition Co-Axial Master Chronometer 9908, featuring a distinctive red central chronograph hand and full matte dial with transferred grey and red markings.
- A reworked version of the original Dark Side of the Moon, driven by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer 9900, with a Liquidmetal™ tachymeter scale and refined two-plate ceramic dial construction with laser-brushed finishing, all in a slimmer profile.
- An all-black model features the Black Edition Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9900 with darkened movement components and enamel tachymeter scale. The ceramic dial showcases laser sandblasting with diamond-polished bevelled indexes filled with Super-LumiNova.
- And a model commemorating the Apollo 8 crew who became the first humans to ever see the far side of the moon, celebrating astronaut Jim Lovell's historic observation during Apollo 8 that "the Moon is essentially grey,". The timepiece features a laser-ablated lunar surface visible through the movement. The near side of the Moon appears between the skeletonised grey dial while the far side of the Moon emerges through the caseback, creating an immersive lunar landscape. And powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3869.
Strap Innovation
Complementing the technical advances, OMEGA introduces enhanced strap options across the collection. Nylon fabric straps now feature rubber lining for improved comfort, while new rubber straps showcase lunar surface patterns on the reverse side, creating a tactile connection to space exploration heritage.
